Roy Jones
I was born and bred in Oxford, living in North Oxford before moving with my parents to Marston. I attended the village school where “Pop” Jennings was head before passing the 11+ and going to an Oxford school.
My first job was on the line at Morris Motors before being transferred to stock control. On leaving Morris Motors I became a trainee pharmacist with Timothy Whites and this led to me becoming a teacher of science.
During this period I expanded my interest in Social History and the countryside as an organiser of field studies courses. I began attending St. Nicholas Church when I joined the Sunday school and I have since served as a choirboy, a teacher, a sidesman, and I was first elected to the PCC when I was 21.
At the moment I am tower captain and the longest serving ringer at the church. As part of village life I have been a scout leader, youth club leader and organiser of various activities for young people. I served on the steering committee and later, the village hall committee. I was first elected to the Parish Council when I was 21 and had the pleasure to come back into the fold earlier this year.
