Recreational Areas in Old Marston
Old Marston owns and manages the recreational grounds at Boults Lane and at Mortimer Hall. The triangle of land between the cycle track, Back Lane, Oxford Road, by the Underpass and St Nicholas School, and popular with dog walkers is also the property of the Parish Council. The Parish Council also maintain the play area in Mill Lane near the track leading to the Victoria Arms on behalf of the Oxford Preservation Trust. The Reverend John Mortimer helped the Parish Council purchase the land from Brasenose College last century. It became the village green and Marston cricket ground. When the Marston Ferry By-pass was built, the Parish Council was given the field at Boults Lane so that sports could be played by residents. The adjoining field (by Marsh Lane) is the responsibility of the City Council.
Play Areas in Old Marston
The play areas, grounds and equipment in Old Marston are owned and maintained by the Parish Council. These are in Boults Lane Recreational Ground and Oxford Road Recreational Ground by Mortimer Hall.
You may have noticed that some of the equipment is showing signs of wear and tear and is need of repair or replacement. The Parish Council has formed a committee to undertake the transformation of our play equipment. The Play Committee consists of parish councillors Roy Jones and myself Duncan Hatfield, and local parents Kate Stratford, Paula Coombes, Clare Finch and Gabby Allen.
The Parish Council has set aside a sum of money towards the upgrade, but we need your help. We are consulting with as many groups and local residents as possible, especially our local children and young people, to find out what play equipment we should have.
You can download our consultation questionnaire, complete it and e-mail it back or print and leave in box at Mortimer Hall. If you prefer, please feel free to send an e-mail instead. The upgrade may take at least several months and we will need help to raise the additional funds that may be needed.
We have a large number of catalogues and are consulting also with specialists and other local authorities who have done this to benefit from their experiences.
