From Pc 5901 Jon Shaw
November 2008 The Seventh NAG meeting took place on 20th November at the Northway Community Centre, Dora Carr Close. The Three Neighbourhood Priorities were discussed.
1) Speeding: - The results of the three day speed survey carried out on the Marston Road between have now been reviewed. The survey was conducted from 14th to 16th October, during this time 33,995 vehicles passed over the speed detection strips. The results of the survey showed that the average mean speed on the road during this time was 28.3 mph; this shows that the reported problem on the whole is perception. However the data is very detailed and has shown us that around school pick up time there were a number of vehicle travelling in excess of the speed limit. We will continue to deploy the SID to educate drivers and carry out enforcement operations if appropriate.
2) Anti-Social Behaviour:- The male that was arrested during the drugs warrant at 6 Cavendish Drive on 11th September has appeared in court and was given a 12 month suspended prison sentence and a 3 month tagged curfew to remain indoors from 19:30 – 05:30. Following numerous reports of males riding around the Northway Estate on motorbikes causing a danger to residents and themselves, we have been working in conjunction with our Auto crime team and have now identified an offender who has been arrested for the theft of two motorbikes in the Marston area and is currently on Police bail. We are continuing to work with the youths who are on acceptable behaviour contracts and at present we are only looking at extending one of these contracts following the individuals continued Anti-Social Behaviour and unwillingness to engage with the police or any of our partner agencies.
3) Parking: - We are continuing to conduct patrols at all the primary Schools on the area at closing time, since the letter was sent out to parents at the beginning of term there has been an improvement in the standard of parking and we have only issued five tickets for obstruction. Schools finish for the year on 19th December and once they return in January we will continue the patrols.
4) Community Information: - We are loosing another member of the team at the end of December; Tom is leaving us and transferring to Milton Keynes. We have recruited two new PCSO’s Lucy Watts and Stephanie Barras who are just completing training and will be starting with us in the New Year. At the last Nag meeting the neighbourhood priorities for 2008 were closed, between now and the end of January we will be carrying out the community consultation to decide the priorities for 2009. The consultation will be conducted door to door and we will be asking residents to decide on the issues that really matter to them, we will also we holding a public consultation during January and we will advise when and where that will be taking place. As some of you may be aware we have been looking for some time for a suitable premise to turn into a Neighbourhood Police Office. I am pleased to say that we have been working closely with the City Council and a premise on Westland’s Drive has become available to us, the legal paperwork is currently being completed and we hope to move in sometime in the New Year. The Community sports club was launched on Saturday 29th November at OXSRADS on Marsh Lane, it is free to all 11 to 18 year olds and runs every Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm.
