Information

Join us for the big clean up in Old Marston and help us to make Old Marston and even better place to live in.

The Oxford Civic Society with support from Oxford City Council and the Oxford Times is organising a city wide campaign to clean up Oxford on the 14th, 15th and 16th of March 2008. They are encouraging local groups, organisations and residents to take the initiative in their local communities.  This is known as the OxClean event.

In Old Marston the event is being organised the Parish Council as is being co-ordinated by myself, Duncan Hatfield.

Time: 10:00

Date: Saturday 15th March 2008

Venue: Church Hall, Elsfield Road

Volunteers willl be split into teams and will go to the designated area. They will be provided with  bags - some for general rubbish and some for recyclable rubbish. They will also be provided with gloves  and hopefully tabards (high-visibility vests) and litter pickers.  Volunteers will be given guidelines, especially as relates to health and safety. We will keep in touch with the groups by mobile phone.

The areas to be covered will be decided a bit nearer the event - I am hoping that local people will suggest areas that they think will need to be cleaned. A risk assessment will be done on all of the areas to be covered.

We will provide refreshments at the end of the event - volunteers needed please - and there will be a debrief at the end.

There will be a first aider present, a first aid kit and anti-sceptic wipes. Any large items will be placed in a wheel barrow and sharps (that cannot go into the bags) will be put into a bin. Arrangements will be made for dealing with any needles that are found.

Any rubbish collected will be taken away by the City Council Cleansing Department.

There will be more publicity nearer the event. Please let others know about this event. Please contact me for more information either by e-mail or text or call me on:  07706-99-82-24.

Please feel free to turn up on the day, but it would be useful if you could let me know if you will be joining us and if you can volunteer in any way.

I suggest bringing suitable gloves (such as gardening gloves), bright or high visibility clothing and if anyone has a litter-picker then please bring that along as well.
