22 July 1918

The Chairman reported that he received a letter from the Bursar of Brasenose College stating that another lease was not necessary, but that the college required an increased rent. The Clerk reported having interviewed The Bursar on the 20th just on the subject, and stated that the rent proposed by the college was £4 an acre instead of the average rate of £2 - 5 now paid. Considerable surprise was expressed that the college should make such an allowance when so many of the tenants were absent on military service. It was finally proposed by the Chairman and seconded by Mr Buckett that the Clerk write to the Board of Agriculture and ask if the college was acting within their legal rights in making such an increase in war time. Carried unanimously.
